Matai house is a family home in Wellington, New Zealand. This house has a simple layout with rooms situated on each side of a central hallway and a bathroom area in the back. And to make this house to be more fresh and alive, Parsonson Architects redesign the house by dividing into two living quarters, the old house and the contemporary extension.
To get a good relationship of each room, the architect includes accentuate a series of concrete platforms with wooden steps to connect the house with a sunny rear part. This is can create a new elevated family living space that leads to a larger sunnier rear courtyard.
Architects also put the two new bedrooms and a bathroom above the new living space. While the new living room is situated at the end of the villa hallway that makes the room is getting a lot of natural light coming through the large and spacious windows.
