The Low Energy Building, MMMMMS House in Girona, Spain by Anna & Eugeni Bach

A special project designed by Anna & Eugeni Bach. The MMMMMS House is located on the outskirts of Camallera, Girona, Spain. This house project is placed in a development area adjacent to a village. The house was completed in 2014.

In the construction of this house, the architect must comply with a series of local restrictions that include the implementation of sloped roofs, stone cladding and “Arab” tiles. The main objective of this regulation is to construct a new building to look like old rural houses.

Inspired by the efficient design of a warehouse, the MMMMMS House forward the design of large main volume are supported by some small volumes such as bedrooms, kitchen, and bathrooms that are placed within their own separate compartments.

The house has been designed to be a low energy building. In the summer, the house get very comfortable temperatures without air conditioning with the help of cross-ventilation system in the façades and skylights. While in the winter, warm air is maintained because the thickness of the walls and insulation. In addition, the heating is provided by a high performance of wood-chip heater that connected to solar panels also supplying hot water.
